BONNY GLOW'S PROSPECTS

During her racing career the Day Comet mare Bright Glow was something above the average, although Jt was not till she was a four-year-old that she commenced to prove herself. In that season she had nine outings for iive firsts, one second, and a third, four of the victories being registered in succession.

Included in her successes wore the AUawa Hack Cup at Taranaki and the Stralfor.l Cup. On the hitler occasion Mintleuf and Onizono attended her home, whereas such well-known performers as Piulhair. Yoma, and Paitonu were unplaced. Strangely enough, both Bright Glow and Mintlcaf were represented by winners at. Hawera on Thursday, Bonny Glow, a daughter of Bright Glow's, winning the Waipapa Hack Handicap, and Majority scoring in the Tokaora Hack Handicap, the.latter being one of Mint Leaf's sons.

As a five-ycav-old Bright Glow carried on the good work, winning the Tcmks Stakes at Egmont, the Prince of Wales Handicap at Manawatu, and the Easter Handicap at Auckland. In addition, she ran second twice and third on four occasions. Whereas in the 192!!----29 season she was accorded 14 outings, she had only a baker's dozen in the succeeding term, but they were productive of four wins, one second, and one third. Those successes were registered in the Egmont Cup, the Stratford Cup, Ihe Wellington Racing Club Handicap, and the Connolly Handicap at Wanganui when pitted against, some of the Dominion's, best. Her active career was carried on in her seventh year, but two minor placings were her only reward, and her owner decided to send her to the matrons' paddock. Bright Glow was sent on a visit to Lord Warden ana a filly foal, who was later known as Bonny Glow, was the result. She was mated with the same sire in the following season, but she died when giving birth to a filly. During her racing career, Bright Glow carried the colours of the Taranaki sportsman Mr. H. Cleland, • as does Bonny' Glow at the present time, and a patient policy was adopted with the latter, just as had been done with the dam The Lord Warden youngster had but the one start as- a two-year-old, and half a dozen as a three-year-old, winning the Filzroy Hack Handicap at Taranaki at the , Christmas Meeting two years ago, and he ran second once. The offspring did not • reach the heights of his dam as a four-year-old, 'having to b2 content with one success, this being registered in the ■Presidents Hack Handicap at Opunake, Red Sand and Naughty Marietta attending him home. In the intervening period the latter pair have built up rather the better record for themselves/but it is still possible that Bonny Glow will reach the greater heights, despite the fact that his success at Hawera on Thursday was his first lor the current term. •
