LADY'S LIGHTWEIGHT GOATEE

(Concluded.) (Specially Designed for "The Evening Post" by "Oswalda.") This article concludes the directions for knitting the lady's lightweight coatee, the first' two sections having appeared on February 5 and 12. The Back.—Cast on 88 sts. Work 2 rows in plain knitting. 3rd Row.—X. plain. 4th Row.—X. 1, p. to the last st, k. 1. Repeat the 3rd and 4th. rows 17 times. 39th Row.—X. 28, k. 2 tog., k. 1, k. 2 tog., k. 22, k. 2 tog., k. 1, k. 2 tog., k. 28. 63rd Row.—Like the 55th row. Work 3 rows without shaping, also after each of the following rows until the 79th row is reached.

67th Row.—X. 28 (increase once in the next st, k. 1) twice, k. 15 (increase once in the next st., k. 1) twice.

71st Row.—X. 1, increase once in the next st., k. 27 (increase once in the next st, k. 1) twice, k. 17 (increase once in the next st, k. 1) twice, k. 25, increase once in the next stitch, k. 2.

75th Row.—X. 31 (increase once in the next st., k. 1) twice, k. 19 (increase once in the next St., k. 1) twice, k. 30.

Work 17 rows without shaping. Cast off 6 sts. at the of each of the next 2 rows. .Decrease once at each end of the needle in the next and every alternate row, until 68 sts. remain. Work 39 rows without shaping. "Shape for the 'shoulders" as follows:— Ist Row.—X. plain to the last 7- sts., turn. 2nd Row.—P. to the last 7 sts., turn. 3rd Row.—X. plain to the last 14 sts., turn. 4th Row.—P. to the last 14 sts., turn. sth Row.—X: plain to the last 22 sts., turn. 6th Row—P. to the last 22 sts., turn. 7th Row.—X. plain to end of row. Bth Row.—Cast off 22 sts. (p. 2, p. 2 tog.), 6 times, p. to the last st., k. 1. 9th Row.—Cast off 22 sts., k. plain to the end of the row. Work 6 rows in plain knitting. Cast off. The Sleeves.—Cast on 56sts. 48th Row.—Cast off Ist, p. to the end of the row **. Repeat from ** to ** six times.

Proceed as follows: — Ist Row.—Cast off 20 sts., k. 12 (k. 2 tog.) 17 times, k. 14. 2nd Row.—Cast off 2 sts., p. 4 (p. 2 tog.) 17 times, p. 3. 3rd Row.—Cast off 1 st., k. plain to the end of the row. 4th Row.—Cast off 1 st., p. to the end of the row. Cast off. Work the other sleeve the same. To Make Up the Coatee.—Press carefully with a hot iron, over a damp cloth. Sew up shoulder side and sleeve seams. Place the seams on, sleeves, 3 sts. to the front of side seam, and arrange fullness on top of sleeve. Work one row of s.c. at the back of the neck, very firmly, threequarters of an inch below the cast-off
