ACCUSATIONS OF CZECHS The German Press, still simmering over the display of caricatures of Nazi leaders at an- art exhibition in Prague, raged again over reports of alleged mishandling .of Sudeten Germans (Czech Nazis) at Teplitz-Schoenau, says the Berlin correspondent of the "Chicago Tribune." German papers published stories of "brutal treatment" of Sudeten German leaders by Czech police after a meeting addressed by their chief, Konrad Henlein. "It is a provocation of the entire German nation," said the "Berlin Lokal Anzeiger," which warned the Czechs that Germany "now possesses another shape and another determination to what it did before 1933." "Der Angriff," official paper of Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda, said: "Prague must realise that the German nation of 70,000,000 is not inclined to tolerate further trampling of vital German rights by a nation of 6,500,000." Nazi anger arose recently when the Prague art exhibit showed caricatures entitled the "Rise and Fall of a Dictator." They depicted Reichsfuehrer Adolf Hitler as a "hunger dictator." One caricature jibed at Colonel-Gene-ral Hermann Wilhelm Goering, Air Minister. Another, called "Away With Beefsteak," pictured two Brown Shirts with fixed bayonets carrying off a' piece of beef on which was inscribed, "I am a beefsteak of foreign origin and have damaged German stomachs." Czechs withdrew caricatures referring to Hitler, but retained the rest. At the time one German paper said: "A mere apology is not sufficient. The Czechoslovakian Government must repair the damage." Reports from Czechoslovakia said that the alleged mishandling of Sudeten Germans was of minor character, reported a Vienna message. Konrad Henlein, Nazi chieftain in Czechoslovakia, angered *iy the arrest of his chief aid, Ernst Ruthe, on charges of sexual offences, delivered aggressive speeches at Teplitz-Schoe-nau. He demanded autonomy for the Sudeten German district.
