RELIGIOUS SERVICES. A T the place called Calvary, we see the ■*"*■ religious world (the Jews), the intellectual world (the Greeks), and the military world (the Romans) all united in the crowning act of man's guilt—the crucifixion of the Son of. God. For we read in Luke 23:38 that the superscription over His cross was written in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. We believe from a careful study of the 'Word of God that this unholy alliance will again be in evidence when He conies with His redeemed Church to set up His earthly kingdom and to reign over this world for 1000 years. The 2nd Psalm points us right on to that_ blessed day when He shall be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In Verses 1 and 2 we are told that the people imagine a vain thing, and desire to throw off all restraint. Man in his blindness and ignorance imagines that he. can build n paradise in this scene of sin and sorrow. Vain hope, they set themselves against the Lord and His Anointed. Verse 4 says: "He that sitteth in the.heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in. derision." Last week we spoke of the false prophet, the antichrist, sitting in the Temple of God and showing himself that he is God. This then is where man's boasted learning and civilisation is leading him, to rebellion, and war against his Creator. Thank God for everyone that can say as the Psalmist in Psalm 16:6, "I have set the Lord always before me: because He is at my riant hand I shall not be moved." And Psalm 40:2: "Brought out of the horrible pit and the miry clay ... set upon the rock. The Rock Christ Jesus, against which the gates of Hell shall not prevail. Ihe wonderful 2nd Psalm rightly follows the blessed Psalm of the happy separated man. Psalm 1. While we prove from the Word of God that Christendom is goin=unto judgment, we do not doubt that among it all, are many really "born a^ain" souls. Their intentions in remaining there are doubtless good, but we would refer them to two Scriptures, Jer. 51:3 and Rev. 18:4; also 2 Cor. 6:17. Next week, D.V.. we shall continue this subject. Anxious souls please imte F. J Cross. 25 Crawford Rnad, E3. BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY (Wellington Auxiliary.) T^HE Annual Meeting of the Society will -1- be held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall, Wellington, on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1038, at 8 p.m. A Lecture will be delivered by the Rev. G. W. Sheppard, the Society's Secretary in China for 15 years, entitled "China and Japan: Similarities and Contrasts."
