AN EXCELLENT YEAR
INCREASE IN CONTRIBUTIONS
"It is with the greatest pleasure, and with the utmost thankfulness, that once again we announce that we have had an excellent year in New Zealand," states ;he annual report of the British and Foreign Bible Society. For the sixth consecutive year the society vas able to report an increase in general contributions received tbroug) the branches. The total amount of general contributions received c;ont to £9030 15s 6d, representing an dvance,of £1079 0s Bd. There were nearly 500 branches in the Dominion and*there was no cause, religious or otherwise, that was better served by its members. The branches were grouped in auxiliaries and these again grouped naturally into geographical areas. Each individual area reported an increase in giving.. The amount received from legacies for tne year w £562 17s sd. Durin- lie.eleven months covered by the report the output of Scriptures through the Wellington Bible House reached the total of 28,793 copies, comprising T2.277 Bibles, 5876 Testaments, and 10," 10 portions of Scripture. About 90 per cent, of the Scriptures were solof at a loss to the society. During the eleven months Scriptures were sold in twenty-six languages. _ "A pleasing growth has been the desire of several of our contributors to be represented in the foreign fields of service by a colporteur or colporteurs, states, the report. One has been set aside in Japan. Certain of our contributors have guaranteed the keep of a colporteur for a limited number of years. It was stated that the Government had intimated to the council of the society its intention to buy Bible House and negotiations were proceeding.
