THE MEMENTO MARKET
Of, "personal relics" of tne famous, locks of hair would seem to be among the most variable in market value, says the "Manchester Guardian." Within'the past few days two such relics have been sold in London —one of Sir Walter Scott, which brought £8, and one of Nelson, which changed hands for £12. Yet a few years ago another such relic of Scott fetched only £4, while a lock of Nelson's attained the record figure of £315. Even more remarkable has been the fluctuation in prices for wisps of Napoleon's rather scanty locks—the highest and lowest figures being £3 and £250. It should be added, however, that one of those prices was obtained in Paris and the other in London.
