RHINOCEROS'S RAID.
After .goring a native in the thigh and overturning,a hut in, which some native women had gone.for, safety, a large black rhinoceros ' was shot near Hluhluwe, Ziiluland; (Africa), by a missionary, Mr.J: Hawkins. The'rhino had been seen y/anderihg »rbund in: the district for some days.) It then appeared in! the neighbourhood of. some native kraals' hear the ''.hissiori;'stitir at Ndondweni.. A native saw the animal stalking one of. his children. He flung stones at it to try and' beat'it off, and it immediately turned on him. He was gored through the -thigh* - though not seriously. Fortunately for the victim, the rhino saw some native women dressed in white, and it immediately charged them. They ran to a hut for refuge, and the infuriated animal overturned it. Mr. Hawkins then arrived with his gun and dispatched- the animal
