PROPRIETARY CLUBS
STEPS FOR ABOLITION
(From "Vedette.")
SYDNEY, January 28. The real fight is now* on between the proprietary racing clubs in Sydney and those who advocate non-propriet-ary racing. The proprietary clubs, with a ready-made organisation, have marshalled their forces and are ready to make every effort with the appeal board, set up by the Government, which is preparing machinery for the abolition of proprietary racing. The clubs have big financial resources and say they will not hesitate to use them. The non-proprietary interests compris'ing '. owners, trainers, jockeys, bookmakers, studmasters, ifarriers, and all who derive their livelihood from racing have convened a meeting for next week. On Tuesday a strong working committee will be elected to work counter to the proprietary interests and endeavour to show to the Government, through the appeal board, the necessity for the abolition of shareholders taking so much money out of racing. Increased prize-money and all profits back to racing in the shape of increased prize-money are the aims of the non-proprietary advocates. .
