NORTHERLY WINDS AGAIN Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate and variable winds, with northerlies gradually ■ prevailing. Weather fine and warm. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for easterly to north-easterly. winds predominating. These will be * strong in parts of the northern half of the North Island, but elsewhere they will be only light to moderate in force, although freshening somewhat. The weather for the most part will still be fine and warm, but scattered rain is still probable in the far northern and north-eastern portions of the North Island. The meteorological situation continues to be dominated by a" rather intense anticyclone, its centre being this morning to the east of the South Island. As pressure is relatively low to the north of New Zealand, winds from some easterly quarter .have prevailed. These have been -generally only light to moderate in force, but by this morning winds were strong in places in North Auckland. Further isolated rains have fallen in the northern half of the North Island, but otherwise -the weather for the most part has -been fine and pleasant; temperatures having • gradually become warmer. ■ • Auckland had fair to cloudy and warm weather yesterday, with a moderate wind from the north-east or east. The maximum temperature was 76.9 degrees and the minimum 66, degrees. In Wellington it was beautifully fine, the warmth being tempered by a light south-easterly breeze. Hours of bright sunshine totalled 13.3, and the. maximum and minimum temperatures were 74.8 and 56 degrees respectively. Christchurch also had brilliantly flue and warm weather, with light and variable breezes. The maximum temperature was 72.2 degrees and the minimum 59.8 degrees. The weather this morning was .fair, with a fresh wind from the cast-north-cast. Eunedin had a dull morning, but the afternoon was sunny, a light r northeasterly breeze prevailing. The weather this morning was clear and a gentle northerly, was blowing.
