F. J. SMITH'S WINNINGS

With the .--trotting.: season , half over, F. J. Smith's charges-have taken 21 firsts, 13 seconds, and 14 thirds, says the "Herald.". This-trainer holds the record, with 200 wins, in the last five seasons. His best term was in 1933-34, when he turned out: 52 winners, 51 of whom he drove.: During the present term his horses have won £4865 in stakes, King's Warrior, with two .successes arid minor places, winning . £1100. , His most important win was in the King George Handicap at Addington and he was second to Willow Wave in the Auckland Cup. which earned a 12 yards' penalty. . . , . Twelve horses are represented In this season's 21. winners. Crocus, with four, and Bexley- Girl, with three, assisting most with the total. King's Warrior. Ironside, Cavan Chief, and Musketeer have scored twice, and the other winners are Sandusky, Nervie's Last. Mountain Flight, Grattan Girl, Querida. and Real Red Excepting for one" win by King's Warrior. Ironside, and-Mountain Flight, all the successes have been in the Auckland area. Bonny Azure has assisted - with plafp money, including the larj prizes in the New-Zealand Trotting Cup. "■': -T ; ' Guy Junior, winner of the Flyinn Handicap at Forbury, only recently joined M. Holmes's team and is a greatly improved pacer. His latest win flattered- him, nevertheless, and under-different conditions he probably would have been beaten by Lucky Jack. Two wins, a second, and a third with four horses was M. Holmes's good record for the opening day.
