HEAVY ENTRY OF SHEEP

MARKET REMAINS FIRM

Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the Feilding sale held on Friday:— A heavy entry of sheep again came forward, the entry being comprised principally o£ lambs, with just odd pens of 5- and 6-year owes. The market throughout remained firm on last week's rates, and we report a 100 pei 'cent, clearance at auction. A ti»-ioi> iline of shorn wether lumbs offered on account of Mr. A. Bar licit, X mbolton sold from 17s to 17s Gel, this line being well grown, good boned, early shorn, meaty lambs. Another good line ol early shorn wether lambs ottered on account of Mr.. It. W. Brown, Colyton, realised 16s lOd. A small ollerinjl of fat sheep sold at slightly reduced rates on those ruling at last weeks fixture. A small offering of station cattle was submitted, and here we report no alteration on last weeks siue. The usual entry of fat cattle comprised principally of cows ex the dairy sold at rates hardly up to those ruling last week. Quotations:—Fat sheep: Fat lambs, 17s, 19s, 22s 9d; fat wethers, 18s, 21s 3d, 235, 23s Id, 24s 2d, 25s 9d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows:—The yarding of store sheep was again represented mostly by lambs, which came forward in advertised numbers. The quality was from fair to medium, with prices showing an easing tendency, no doubt due to the prolonged spell of dry weather, coupled with the drop in export values. Venders, however, continued to meet the market, therefore practically a total clearance can be reported. Competition is still restricted to local buyers, with an odd pen going to Shannon and Levin districts. Keen interest was shown in the'sale of specially advertised breeding ewes, the finest pen of 6-year ewes going to the bid of 18s 6d, while the other pen made 22s 3d. ' The latter pen was sold at the same sale last year for 30s. Fat cattle found a steady market, as did boner and dairy cattle. Fat cattle: Vealers, £2, £2 14s; cows, ex dairy, £4, £4 10s, £4 15s, £5, £5 12s 6d, to £5 17s 6d; steers, £5 to £7 ss; heifers,. £5 to £5 15s. SATISFACTORY PRICES. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report as follows:—Approximately 13,000 sheep were penned, the bulk of the yarding comprising lambs with a few pens of good 5-year and 6-year ewes. The market for lambs was firmer on last week's sale, and a steady demand resulted throughout the auction, with a complete clearance at prices satisfactory to venders. Great interest was taken in. the annual' draft of 6-year ewes from Mr. W. A. Coombs, of Pohangina, which realised 22s 3d. A pen of 6-year ewes from Mr. J. L. W. McLean, of Tiritea, were sold at 20s 3d, and a draft of 4-tooth, 6-tooth, 8-tooth, and 5-year ewes from Mr. J. Montgomery, jun., of Awahou, Ashhurst, realised 23s Bd. We report on account of Mr. D. L. Younger, of Cinderhill, the sale of a pen of good white-face wether lambs at 18s. Only a small entry of fat sheep was penned, and prices showed a drop of fully 2s on recent sales. There was a nominal entry only of fat cattle, and prices were easier. A small entry in the store cattle section sold at prices on a par with last week's rates. Quotations:—Fat wethers, 21s 6d to 27s 9d; fat ewes, 16s lOd; woolly b.f. lambs, 13s 6d; shorn b.f. wethers, 13s to 14s 8d; cull b.f. lambs, 8s to 10s Id; good f. and f.w.f. lambs, 15s to 18s; medium do., 12s 6d to 14s; cull do., 7s to 9s; 4, 6, 8-tooth and 5-year ewes, 23s 8d; 6-year ewes, 20s 3d. to 22s 3d; heifers r.w.b., £5 ,ss; dairy cows, r.w.b., £5 5s to £6 12s 6d; fat cows ex-dairy, £4 10s to £5; fat heifers, £5 10s to £6 10s; vealers, £2 to £3; runners, £4 12s 6d; store cows, £2 2s 6d to £3 x l2s 6d.
