HOROWHENUA SHOW

LEVIN TO PLAY HOST

In the production of dairy produce, j and in general farming activities, the fertile Horowhenua district plays an important part and makes no small contribution to the wealth which New Zealand derives from its primary industries-. Nature has played its part in providing land with a high productive value and a favourable climate, and industrious and efficient farmers have done the rest. The story Of the development of the Horowhenua district is one of steady progress. The centre of -the district is the town of Levin, one of the most attractive of the Dominion's many fine secondary towns. Well laid-out and well-kept streets, handsome' buildings, attractivelooking shops, and well-cared for houses combine to give Levin a prosperous appearance. But it is more than a case of mere appearance; Levin is prosperous. Once a year Levin and the district surrounding it holds carnival at the annual show of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association. , This year's show, which, will be held on the show grounds at Levin on Friday and Saturday, will provide yet another opportunity for a display of the district's wealth and for bringing it into competition with that of other districts. More than that, the show will present an opportunity of bringing together town and country interests. Perhaps this is the most valuable feature of agricultural shows, for it is essential that those who work on the land and those who handle their produce in the towns should work in harmony and reach a common understanding. The old idea that farmers and. townsfolk have little in common has been very largely removed as a result of shows such as that to be held in Levin this week. Not only will the wealth of the Horowhenua district be displayed, but the town of Levin itself will be on show; Visitors from many parts of the Dominion will be there, and they are assured of a fitting welcome. Excellent entries in all classes have been re-, ceived for the show, and the many attractions which have been arranged will offer varied entertainment for patrons. Town and country infcrests have combined to make this year's show of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association one of the most successful the history of the association. The special display appearing on page 5 of the present issue gives an excellent idea of the steady progress .which is being | made by the district of Horowhenua land the town of Levin.
