BLOODSTOCK SALE
BIG PRICE FOR CALLISTO
The annual sale of brood mares and fillies was conducted at the Trentham stables today by Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., in conjunction with William Inglis and Son, Ltd., of Sydney, and Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., of Christchurch, when there was a large attendance of owners and breeders.
Some excellent stock was presented, and the bidding was very spirited in several instances. Mr. M. H. Tims, of Te Awamutu, went to 800 guineas to secure Callisto, a six-year-old sister to Gallio and half-sister to Te Hero. Another matron to reach a good figure was Spionetta, an imported mare by Spion Kop, whom the Maxwell breeder, Mr. J. A. Alexander, bought for 400 guineas. Aurora Borealis, winner of the Great Northern Steeplechase, Grand National Steeplechase, and A.R.C. Winter Steeplechase, and dam of Aurora's Love, went to 325 guineas, but her owner, Mr. F. R. Waller, of Himatangi, declined to quit her at that figure.
