BURGLAR ESCAPES
CHASED BY A CONSTABLE
After being chased by a constable at Lower Hutt on Sunday night, a burglar, who had entered Cunningham's service station, opposite the railway station, managed to escape,
,At 11.40 p.m. Constable Brownie noticed a man getting out of the back window of the service station. The man caught sight of the constable at the same time, and ran up the Western Hutt Road. Although he was hampered in his start by having to get round a large horse float parked on the roadside, the constable was catching up when the man ran into Bridge Street and escaped into the garden of a private house. Further pursuit was fruitless.
A few pounds were taken from the office of the service station. The police are carrying out further investigations.
