TASMAN CROSSING
AUCKLAND TO SYDNEY
FLIGHT OF TEN HOURS

AUCKLAND, This Day.
The Ceniaurus left Auckland at the scheduled time, 5 o'clock this morning, for Sydney, where it is expected to arrive in nine and a half hours. The weather forecast indicated that the flying-boat would meet light to moderate head winds.
There was no farewell ceremony. Captain Burgess's wife, relatives, and friends gathered at the Pan-American base to say good-bye.
The Centaurus carried the Australian Minister of Customs, LjeutenantColoneJ the Hon. T. W. White, as passenger.
Making a long run into a light breeze the Centaurus took off in 31 seconds, rising gracefully in a direct westward course.
Radio messages from the Centaurus were received at intervals and the last one stated "that she was landing at 3 p.m.
At 10.30 the flying-boat was approximately half-way across the Tasman, and at 1 p.m. was 190 nautical miles from Sydney, making 115 knots.
