WOMEN'S HURDLE RACE

DANNEVIRKE, January 9. Competing1 in the 90 yards women's hurdles at the Dannevirke Amateur Club's annual meeting, Miss R. Tong, Hastings, holder of the New Zealand record for the event, succeeded in lowering the existing figures of 13sec by 2-ssec. In the final Miss Tong. one of the Dominion's representatives for the Empire Games, ran the distance in 12 3-ssec, finishing very strongly and winning by several yards. Conditions were perfect when the race was run. Application is to be made for recognition of the time as a New Zealand record.
