Cox was the only Hawera trainer to lead in a winner during Uio holidays, Lowenborg capturing Uic Pccsidcnt's Handicap at Awapuni foi him. At Awapuni Lickem was heavily supported to win the Apprentices Plute, but'he received a bad run. His elfort under the conditions, however, so impressed watchers (hat he was voted a hard horse to beat at Stratford, and the contention worked out. He is a very fit horse, and is included in thp team for Trentham. where he figures in the Douro Cup, run over a mile. Student Prince ran a good second to Grand' City in the Te Atiuwa Cup at New Plymouth, despite his being galloped on The injury necessitated treatment, and he was not nearly at his best at Stratford.
Notium was a big disappointment, and although appearing to be in perfect i condition, he gave his worst exhibition at his third outing.; However, he will be given an opportunity to retrieve himself at Ashhurst on Anniversary Day. ■ ■ ;
The Australian-tired two-year-old Prime Quality will be one of O. Cox's team for Trentham.
With an ounce of luck R. Brough would- have led in Naughty Marietta a winner during the holidays. The Resinous mareran third on the opening day at Stratford, being beaten a .couple of heads', and was second to Lickem on the concluding day. She finished very fast on the latter occasion, and failed by a neck only to catch the winner. One of the wiry sort and a splendid doer, she promises to land a distance'hack face shortly.
