BROKERS' COMMENTS

"VERY SUCCESSFUL"

. The Wairarapa Farmers" Co-opera-tive Association offered an attractive catalogue, comprising for the most part crossbreds from the Wairarapa and Dannevirke districts, to a full bench of buyers. Bidding opened fairly quietly at figures somewhat .in excess of expectations;, the principal -operators being Bradford and the Continent, whije local mills, secured the bulk of the offering of lambs' wool.

"We efTccted almost-a total clearance under the hammer-at"-prices'for a n lines of fleece-wool in excess of those offering at the December sale. Pieces,' bellies, and locks were, however, somewhat easier. The official .range, of prices is not available at. the time of. going- to press, but taking a lino through our catalogue, super wools ■of 46-48's quality were lid higher and 44-46's quality Id higher; first, crossbreds .id to Jd higher; medium and fine hoggets, par to id higher; coarse crossbreds Id higher. Coarse crossbireds of preparing type registered a substantial advance. Taken right through, tho sale must be regarded as very successful, and it is a source of satisfaction to have had the doubts of the past week dispelled.'" ■ The, following -arc some of the association's sales:—

LOCAL MILLS AS BUYERS: Wright.Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., in conjunction with Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report as follows:—We submitted a catalogue of 4344 bales and under keen and general competition nearly 90 per cent, was cleared at auction. Most of the withdrawals con-, sisted of lines carrying reserves in excess of present market values. Compared with the prices established at the December sale in this centre the market generally was: fully firm with the exception of hoggets and heavyconditioned and dusty fine wools, which were rather neglected.. Lambs wool was keenly competed for, especially types in demand by local mills, and such realised prices well above expectations. Any sound wools showing exceptional length were at a pre-. mfum and special lines of these sorts were from 2d to 3d above the last local sale. Crutchings were fully Id higher. The Continent and Bradford were the chief buyers, fully supported by the local mills. America was buying a limited quantity of suitable wools. Some of the best prices realised were as follows:— Halfbred: Challenge, 5 bales at 14dj 10 at 12|d. 10 at 12£ d, 11 at -12jd, 5 at HJd; Mirza Downs, 4 at 12d, 4 at HJd, 6-at 10.Jd; Wai Iti, 24 at 12Jd; Ebux/AW/T, 5..at..12d; Ebux/lIH, 6 at 13d; Ebux/Riverdale, 7 at 11.3d; HJ/G. 8 at"l2d;" Ebux/KS/Matanki, 5 at 123 d; Ebux/Mahinga, 11 at 123 d; Starboro. 5 at 12d; JWH, 4 at Hid; Southdown: Challenge, 4 at 13|d; 20 at 13d, .13 at "12£ d." .
