RELICS OF THE MOA
WANGANUI DEPOSKT
EXCAVATION RESUMED
(Special to the "Evening Post");
WANGANUI,. This Day,
With a complete plant capable -01 dealing quickly and effectively with heavy logs, peat, and water, the: men employed to excavate for moa bones at Mr. Todd's farm, under a Government grant, commenced work today. Since the Alexander Museum authorities ceased work in ,the "niud-hole" some two years ago, water and peat have filled the hole, and a pukeko has made a nest on the tiny island in the middle. The more; powerful machinery installed for this venture will clean portions of the "hole" untouched as yet, and the museum authorities anticipate .a rich reward toward the beginning, of February, when the surplus water and mud has been removed. Other museums in New Zealand will also benefit, as, when the Wanganui Museum requirements ara satisaed, there should be a large amount of material available for this use, Already Wanganui has set up representations of four Out of • five known genera, and there is every prospect of finding even more available material in this extraordinary locality.
