PLEASANT AUSTRALIA
WELLINGTON GIRLS' VISIT
Miss Katrine and Miss. Mary Hursthouse are passengers in the Orcade's on their way to the south of France. In Melbourne they stayed with the master of the Ormonde and Mrs. Picken. They, were there for the boat race, which they followed in. a car by the sloping, tree-shaded lawns of the Yarrow. The performance of the Ormonde boat was a great pleasure to all. Their stay in Melbourne was gay, with many friends and parties, theatres, and excursions. In Adelaide they stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Calvert Hursthouse. They were driven up Mount Loft/ and to other places, and /far up the Murray River, rich with forestry, where there were interesting kookaburras and gailycoloured parrots. They found delightful plants and flowers, and were very interested in the Waite Institute, which experiments in food for sheep and soil to produce wheat. The Director of Education in Adelaide gave them an introduction to the schools, including the free kindergartens and nursery schools for the very little ones of working parents. They found it fun to shop in Adelaide, as the cool air-conditioned shops were most attractive, and made all the difference to comfort.
