COST OF A RESCUE
From Kenya I hear that the cost of the rescue operations involved when Brigadier-General Lewin and his wife were forced down in the swamp country near Malakal was in the neighbourhood of £8000, says a "Daily Telegraph and Morning Post" correspondent, Local opinion is that the winner of the last King's Cup rate and his wife had a very lucky escape. Had they not been sighted by an Imperial Airways flying-boat the chances were all against their ever being found. Authorities in several parts of Africa are now seriously considering the question of vetoing private flights across Africa unless a sum of money is deposited to defray the expenses of a possible search. The French have had such a rule in force .for some time in the area of the Sahara—the- amount being approximately £200.
