SWIMMERS CHOSEN
FIVE PROVISIONAL NOMINATIONS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHUECH, This Day. The council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association has selected the following team to represent New Zealand at the Empire Games in Sydney in February:—Women: Gwen Rix (Otago), springboard diving; Mona Leydon (Auckland), free style; Joyce Mac Donald (Southland), 110 yards backstroke; Winnie Dunn (Dunedin), 220 yards breaststroke; Islay Purdie (Dunedin), 110 yards free style.
Men: P. Hanan (Auckland), 110 yards free style; C. Cliff ■ (Christchurch) and P. Mathieson (Auckland), 110 yards backstroke; J. Davies (New' Plymouth), 220 yards breaststroke; L. ', Newell (Christchurch), 440 yards and 1650 yards free style.
The nominations of Miss Purdie and Mathieson, Cliff, Davies, and Newell are provisional and are subject to confirmation, cancellation, or replacement after the New Zealand championships. Messrs. P. Cpira (Wellington), W. O. Stockley (Auckland)', E. C. Isaacs (Dunedin), and one appointed by each of the Auckland and Otago centres have been appointed the final selectors.
