LONDON MEAT TRADE
CONTROL OF SUPPLIES
"The large meat concerns have their own controlled channels of supply/ said Mr. J. H. Blackwell, chairman of the North Canterbury Freezing Company. "There are, nowever, many independent wholesalers who, though individually smaller yet together handle a large volume of supplies to the trade. The New Zealand Meat Board mentions in its annual report that more than three hundred of these distributors have co-operated at their many depots in the display of the board's New Zealand advertising matter, a daily reminder to the butchers who regularly visit those buying points. Our own distributors are the largest suppliers to these numerous independent wholesalers who, collectively, are an important factor in the wholesale organisation in Great Britain, and whose competition has a very useful bearing on the scale of prices 'received by New Zealand producers."'
