LEADERS HANGED
30*000 SOLDIERS AGAINST
5000 TRIBESMEN

ISTANBUL, November 15. I A revolt in the Dersim district of Kurdistan in April, ih which 5000 tribesmen were involved, is disclosed by the hanging of the leader, Seyid Riza, and ten associates. Four others Were, sentenced to 30, years' hard labour and. 43 to heavy penalties. The tribes had only recently come under Kamal At&turk's modernising ideas, ahd they resehted the creation of new administrative divisions and new methods of collecting taxes. They preferred the Old! method of bargaining With Chiefs and objected to the presence of gendarmes and soldiers. The Government was obliged to use a force 0f<30,000 to suppress the rising.. It also employed bombing aeroplanes, and Riza's house was hit by the famous young Turkish airwoman, Sabiha Sgoekchen. P
