AN ELF'S LESSON
(Original.)
Fairiel -was living .her annual ball, and Fairiel's balls were always the best In Fairyland. Now one of Fairiel'i little velyes was 'galled' '%win!cie-Toes and he was the most mischievous little elf ever born. Fairiel called out the names of all her little helpers, and alJotteaVthem various tasks. TwinkleToW; tye* listened when he heard <thfct-h«'was to collect the nectar, for, W ytfa know, nectar and dew is the food;of all.real fairies. -, „ . '■ It wasn't; th*t-tie was greedy, but he <could alw*j»cotfnt on teasing, the bees bjr calling" them *ames, irad when, they tried to'sting him' hV just hid among the leaves. . jTwinkle-Toes started off with some little bags, in which to convey back the nectar," and before he had collected very much he espied Master Buzz, the most easily annoyed of the bees, flying towards the flower 'where he was working. "Ah," thought Twinkle-Toei, "now for some fun," and he began to shout insulting things to Master Buzz.
Of course, Master Buzz, could not bear this and dived towards TwinkleToes, who' promptly hid under a leaf which was halfway down the stalk, but he was not quite prompt enough, and the tip of the bee's wing just grazed him enough to knock hi^n head over heels to the ground.
He stood up' unhurt and a little fairy came running out of her wee mushroom house to find out what the -terrible commotion was about. Imagine her surprise on seeing a bright-eyed elf gathering himself together and muttering threats about all bees and Master Buzz In particular. Then Moonray, which was the fairy's name, looked towards her tiny clothes-lines and gave a cry of dismay, for her dainty ball dress of silvery sheen, which she was to wear toFairiel's ball that night was torn beyond repair. Twinkle-Toes had torn it in his fall and now she had n.othing to go in. She burst into tears, but ,wheh Twinkle-Toes found what the matter was, oft he flew to make' his confession to Fairiel. She was very angry with him, and forbade him to attend the ball, «o that he might remember not to tease the bees. As for Moon-ray, Fairiel, sent her a beautiful dress to wear to the ball. - Needless to say, Twinkle-Toes has .never been known to tease a bee since.! "PANDORA" (14). , City.
