HORSE OVERLOOKED

JUDGE AMENDS PLACINGS

(From "Vedette,")

MELBOURNE, October 27.

A close finish in the first heat of the Dundonald Handicap at Moonee Valley saw an extrabrdinary demonstration; Evening Mist staged a great run from the turn, and the smart South Australian' Night Song just beat her .to the post. To the surprise of all, Evening Mist was not placed. There was a yell from the crowd, and R. Wilson briskly trotted Evening Mist back to the Judge's box, f wherelie paraded ostentatiously, if silently. The stewards and secretary rushed to the judge's box, and after ■ some delay Evening Mist's number was hoisted in second.place. Actually the unlucky one in the finish was Amiable, Mr. W. R. Kemball's Lord Quex filly, who was locked in on the rails and striving hard to improve on fourth place. 7 After Evening Mist's great. effort, Mohicah was the obvious wager in the next division. The pair finished second and third to. Gold Rod in the Epsom Handicap at Randwick. Mohican made no mistake, for he raced to the front at the turn and walked in. .■■ . Apart from Frill .Prince, backers had a day out at Moonee Valley, but those at Warwick Farm were not so happy. G. Price won a race with the third favourite and well-backed The Squire (Beau Pere—Helen) in the Greystanes Juvenile Stakes. The Squire did not have a great deal to spare, but won well.- . . Sir Regent, after .running a meritorious second in the ', Caulfield Cup, worried his trainer for a few days, but he appears to have recovered.
