MUSKETEER AT THAMES

While F. J. Smith was dominating the Wellington Meeting on Saturday, his first lieutenant, C. G. Smith, was bringing grist to the "Village Farm" mill at the Thaties Meeting. This was in the Goldflelds Handicap, which provided a great finish and victory for the each-way favourite Musketeer, a Jewel Pointer gelding in the Smith stable. Musketeer was a trifle slow to settle down, and as a result was near the rear and, awkwardly placed after going the .first mile, when Baron Grand was the leader from Cherrill, Handicapper, and Grtft Chum. The speed was turned oh ih earnest when Gay Sister made a 7 sharp run on the outside about three furlongs from home, Baron Grand, Great Chum, Musketeer, and Gay Sister coming into the straight almost abreast in the lead. Musketeer stayed well to win by a neck from Great Chum, with Gay Sister another neck away third. Sir Frank was half a length away fourth, followed by Handicapper and Cherrill, both of whom tired near they end. Bismuth, Luminate, and Transwbrthy lost their chances at the start.
