(Received November 3, 2.10 p.m.)

ROME, November 2.

Regarded as having been directly inspired by the Prime Minister, Signor Mussolini, a statement issued by the official Italian news agency declares that Italy, to'her discredit in the eyes of the British Foreign Secretary, has the treble guilt of having fought beside the Allies in the Great War, having achieved national unity 7 and conquered an Empire in Africa by her own efforts and her own blood, and having said a word for justice on behalf of the German people.

It is pointed out regarding Africa that what Italy. obtained whilst England and France were sharing the immense German colonial empire were truly laughable compensations.

The statement adds that .in th* archives of the British Foreign Office Mr. Eden can find extremely numerous documents of work done by himself and the British Government to stop Fascist Italy's forward march. Ht» arguments therefore are of no valu« whatsoever.

Referring in his Address-iri-Reply speech in the House of Commons to Italy's championship of Germany's claim for African possessions, the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Eden, said: "I must declare plainly that we do not admit the right of any Government to call on us for a contribution when there is no evidence to show that that Government is prepared to make any contribution on its own account."
