Pleading guilty to a charge of conducting a gaming-house raided by the police on October 25, John Sydney Cormack (29), motor-driver, was fined £40, in default six weeks" imprisonment, and allowed three days to pay.

Detective-Sergeant McHugh, conducting the police case, asked for a heavy penalty, stating that thirty-five persons, including girls and young women, were arrested on the premises. Not only were the.girls gambling, but some were drinking beer out of bottles.
