MOTHER'S ACT

KILLED FIVE CHILDREN

THEN COMMITTED SUICIDE

(Received November 2, 9.40 a.m.)

NEW YORK, November 1,

Apparently after having read from the Bible, which was opened at Exodus, the story describing the birth of Moses and Pharaoh's order to slay male children, Mrs. Elma McAninch, aged 35, shot dead four of her sons and daughter, of ages ranging from two to fourteen years, and then committed suicide. Two other sons, aged 15 and 11 years, found the bodies after returning from a party, and also a note stating: "I have stood all. I can. All that saves you, boys, is that there are no more cartridges." It is presumed that she was worried owing to her husband's detention in connection with a theft.
