Following a series of conferences be- : tween representatives of the Auckland j City Council and the Auckland Trans- • port Board concerning the question of the future licensing and control of ; taxi-cabs in the Auckland area, an arrangeemnt was reached today by which the Transport Board will become thejpmetropolitan licensing authority and the City Council will be iully responsible for enforcement under the proposed amending legislation to bring this class of transport under the provisions of the Transport Licensing Act, 1931 - The Commissioner of Transport, Mr. G. Laurenson, attended these conferences, and it was stated that on his return to Wellington he would recommend the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to incorporate the terms of the arrangement in the Bill which he will be submitting to Parliament this session. "The outcome of the deliberations has been most satisfactory," said the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. "With all such matters compromise must be the guiding factor and the arrangement which has been come to, based as it is on this principle, be in every way workable."
