STOCK INSPECTION

CHARGE OF EVASION

Mr. W> J. Poison (National, Stratford)' gave notice in the House'of Representatives yesterday to ask the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. L. Martin) the following question:— "Whether he is aware (a) that tne provisions of the Slaughtering and Inspection Amendment Act, 1934, are being evaded by some of the freezing companies operating in New Zealand to the serious detriment of exporters of stock on consignment; (b) that not only are these consignors restricted as to space but that conditions are imposed on them in regard to export, such as enforcement of the use of sec-ond-quality labels on first-quality meat; (c) that the practice of con-tracting-out on the part of the freezing companies by contracts preventing exporters from obtaining killing space at certain works, and by the insistence of such killing quotas as make exporting by such exporters unworkable, exists; and, if so, what steps does he propose to take to deal with the matter?"
