Gordon (Taihape) at yesterday's meeting of the Vfellington Central Executive of the Farmers' Union when discussing a remit favouring the derating of farm lands. "I firmly believe that local bodies ara valuable training schools for local and national government and I should not like to see them go out," he added. Mr. L. Hammond (president) con« curred, remarking that if the union were successful in obtaining derating the present control of local body activity would pass over to the Government and that was not desirable.
