DOCTOR RETURNS

ADVANCES IN MEDICAL WORK. The advances being made in medical work" overseas were mentioned by Dr Alan Tennent, of Wellington, on his return today from abroad. Dr. Tennent was medical officer to the New Zealand Coronation Contingent, and after the Coronation he was engaged in professional work in London and at the Mayo Clinic in the United States of America Great advances, said Dr. Tennent, were being made in X-ray work, both from a diagnostic and also a therapeutic point of view, and this applied, too, in the field of investigation of gastric disorders. Another matter to which great attention was being paid at the present time was the question of diet from the point of view of prevention of disease, particularly in relation to dental caries. In Honolulu very extensive experimental work was being carried out in this direction, showing the Value of tuber starches as preventive agents. Dr. Tennent referred to ,the hospitality extended to visiting medical men at the Mav Institute. The hospitality of this institution was world-famed, he said, and no visiting doctor ever got past without being made a tremendous fuss of. At the present time one New Zealand doctor was working there on the bacteriological side. He was Dr. Gaudin, from Auckland.
