PRISON VISITORS

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Why should not the inmates of Wi Tako Prison be allowed visitors every Saturday 1 ' the same as at Mount Crawford? The superintendent, at Wi Tako is only, going to allow visitors once in two weeks, when visitors have been allowed every Saturday. This will cause bad feeling amongst the visitors and inmates, and it will put visitors to great inconvenience who come long distances.—l'am, etc., , VERY DISGUSTED. [The Controller-General of Prisons, to whom this letter was referred, stated that similar regulations Jbverning visitors to prisoners applied to both Mount Crawford and Wi Tako, that is, within one week from date of conviction and fortnightly thereafter prisoners may receive visitors. This rule is not rigidly adhered to, and two years ago instructions were issued authorising controlling officers, at their discretion, to permit more frequent visits in special circumstances. No special visit has ever been declined at Wi Tako."J
