FEILDING CATTLE FAIR

The New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive .Distributing C 0.., Ltd., report on the Feilding cattle fair:—We. submitted an offering of 2000 cattle,' comprising all classes, to a large attendance. Taken right through, the quality of our offering was good, although some lines .were in somewhat low condition. Pastures in this district are late in coming away, and local, buyers, although they will no doubt require [stock, in the near future', were unable !to operate to any extent and the bulk |o£ our yarding was secured by operators from the Waikato, Taranaki, and Main . Trunk line districts. The sale [opened on the . grown-cattle section [with ho animation, and it was'difficult' to secure bids, it being apparent that 'buyers were nervous. Bidding brightened up oh well-forward "cattle likely Ito .finish off before the ■ end of 'the !year, but on the whole the sale in. this section was erratic. We had, however, only one lot unsold, but prices, although well up to those ruling at other centres, were in'; some ' cases [hardly : HP to .owners' :. anticipations. iTKe offering of station cows and heifers was lighter than usual, arid ! here again bidding was in and out, values, being generally slightly easier. A'feature of this section was a pen of exceptionally well bred 2-year P.A. heifers offered ron account of Messrs. Dairymple Bros,, Waitatapia Station, which; under keen competition,' were, secured by Mr. W. Ji' Shannon, Waituna. at £10 10s. Great interest was displayed in the yarding of yearling Cattle. Our offering numbered 850 head, and was for the most part of outstanding quality. All lots, met • with keen competition, the yarding, with the exception of one pen, selling at auction at prices well above those rifling at last year's fixture. Top' price in this section at £? 15s was .again secured by the late D. Riddiford's Oroui Station, Messrs. Dairymple Bros, being close up at £ 7 13s. The" yarding of Jersey weaner heifers was limited. Good quality sorts were in demand at prices fully firm on late sales. A small offering of beef, showed an improvement on recent markets. Except for the erratic bidding for bullocks, the sale on the whole was better than anticipated and,, .given a satisfactory spring growth of grass, grown cattle should in the near future show an improvement in Not much interest was displayed in the limned number of'sheep penned. Fat , sheep (except of prime lots) .were down on last sale. The offering of store sheep comprised hoggets of medium quality, and most lots were passed.
