FIRE AT PETONE

HOUSE BADLY DAMAGED A six-roomed house in Peel Street, Petone, occupied by Mr. Samuel Edward Gray, his wife, and family of four, was badly damaged by Are at 7.50 o'clock last evening. The inside of the house was gutted, only some of the kitchen furniture being saved. The fire is believed to have originated in a bedroom; When the alarm was given by a member qf the family the house was well alight: The Petone Fire Brigade was promptly on the scene and quickly had the flames under control, but the alarm was not received soon enough to enable the brigade to effect as good a save as could have been made, had the .station been notified earlier. Two members of the family were in bed when the fire broke out. The house which is owned by Mrs. M. Hill, of Adelaide Street, Petone, was insured, and in addition there is £200 insurance on the furniture.
