OFF AND ON AGAIN

TRAWLER MURIEL

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, October 10. The trawler Muriel, which ran aground on the Sumner bar on Thursday evening, was towed free by a launch last night, but the launch had insufficient power to hold her, and she went ashore at Sumner beach, between Cave Rock and the Sumner Surf Club's pavilion. No attempt was made to refloat the Muriel at high tide tonight. Thousands visited Sumner this afternoon and watched the trawler rolling heavily in the surf, with the seas occasionally breaking over her stern. The trawler is now in an almost hopeless position, leaking so badly that it is impossible to raise steam. She is being heavily pounded by the waves.
