WEEKEND FORECAST Special forecast for "Wellington:— Moderate to strong southerly winds reaching: gale force at times:, but decreasing. Weather cold and changeable with an occasional light shower or two, but becoming fine tomorrow. The forecast for the whole Dominion issued at noon today is for .moderate to strong south-westerly to southerly winds, reaching gale force at first in parts k of the east coast and about Cook Strait, but gradually decreasing. Weather will be cold and changeable with scattered passing showers at first in- eastern and northern districts, but soon improving. Some sharp frosts are probable. The last of the recent depressions is now passing eastwards off the Dominion and an anticyclone is advancing rapidly across the Tasman Sea., During yesterday rain fell in western and southern parts of the South Island, but elsewhere the weather was mainly fair, though strong and squally northerly to westerly winds prevailed. Since last night, however, a southerly change has taken place and showers have fallen on the eastern coast of the South Island and also in the Cook Strait area and parts of the west coast of the North Island. At Auckland yesterday the weather was fine and sunny, with a moderate, wind between westerly and southwesterly, which changed ■ to a northwesterly in the evening. This morning there, was a west-south-westerly breeze and" conditions were overcast. In Wellington a northwesterly gale blew and most of the day was cloudy with occasional light showers during the morning. Early this morning the wind changed to a southerly and some heavy rain fell between 5 and 6.30 a.m. The rainfall was 30 points. Sunshine yesterday amounted to 3.3 hours. Christchurch had a warm, dull day with a strong north-westerly wind, which at 10 p.m. changed to a southwesterly, and afterwards light showers fell. At 9 a.m. today it was overcast. Eight points of rain fell. It was cloudy at Dunedin yesterday and there was a light north-westerly breeze. Showers fell in the early evening and the wind later turned to a fresh south-westerly. This morning was fair. The rainfall was one point.
