SMART SUMMER JUMPER WITH PLEATED FRILLS

Materials.—7oz 2-ply fine fingering wool, loz contrasting colour, one pair No. 11 knitting needles and 1 pair No. 10. Measurement.—To fit a 34-inch bust. Frilling.—On No. 11 needles cast on 390 sts. and work in stk. St. Work two rows, then one row only of contrasting colour and then continue in body coiour until the work measures ljin. Cast off plain on purl side of work. Make two pieces. These are now ready for being pleated at a pleating shop. Choose a Jin knife pleat. The Short Sleeve.—Using No. 11 needles, cast on 64 sts. Work in ribbing (k. 1, p. 1) for ljin (working first row into back of sts.) Change to No. 10 needles and work in pattern until the. work measures sin, k. 2 tog. each end of every row until decreased to 44 sts.; then every second row until decreased to 16 sts. Work four rows Cast off. To Make Up.—Press seams only with a hot iron over a damp cloth. Sew up sleeve and underarm seams, also shoulders (as far as panel only on one shoulder. Sew the frill around the neck and divide the remainder into two short and two longer lengths. Sew the two longer lengths either side of a centre l&in space from neckline to below bust. Two longer lengths sew on either shoulder, near neckline to bust. Finish shoulder with buttons and crochet loops. Set in sleeves, I any fullness going to the ion of sleeve.
