OUTSTANDING SEASON

MARANUI CLUB

"The season has been an outstanding one in the history of the club, both from the high standard of efficiency shown by the various teams ia the competitions, and the very successful effort to relieve the club of its financial obligations," says the twenty-sixth annual report of the Maranui Surf Life-saving Club, to be presented at the annual meeting next Thursday. The club has again secured a number of the awards issued by the Royal Life-saving Society and the New Zealand Surf Association. The success ot this portion of the club's activities is very gratifying and ■is ■ sufficient proof that the club is carrying put its mam object, teaching the art of life-saving of the apparently drowned. The awards gained by the club were as follows:—Surf instructor's certificate, 1; bronze medallion, 7; elementary certificate. 7; intermediate certificate, 7. No rescues were recorded and no drowning fatalities occurred during the season. The club conducted bronze medallion and surf medallion classes for the benefit of the pupils of Roneotai College and the results achieved were very encouraging. The membership of the club is now 138. an increase of 18. The New Zealand '•hamnionshios were held at Lyall Bay Beach this- year, and considering the inclement weather, they were well conducted. The Wellington Association suffered a heavy financial loss through the competitions and in this resnecf were somewhat unfortunate, as they would have made a handsome profit had the weather been fine, due to the visit of the Australian surf team.' From the club's point of view the championships were a huge success. Ins it was successful in carrying off three championships, a feat which has only once been equalled in the history of the club. The chamoionships won were th* Nelson Shield, Four-man Alarm Chamnionshin. and the New Zealand Surf Senior Teams' Race. The flub was also very successful at the West Coast (North Island) championships, and gained first and second olaces in the senior spven-man chamnionship for the Haekshaw-Searle shield, fnd all three nlaces in. the Cibsnn Cuo four-man alarm contest.
