WANGANUI WIN AGAIN
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, September 19.
Wahganui deservedly won a representative Rugby match against Hawke S Bay by 16 points to 11. The Winners had too much pace for the visitors, who missed Clothier at half-back, but fielded Reid, Jackson, and Dalton in the pack, and also Bowman. In the first spell both teams were A trifle stale, having played matches on Wednesday, Hawke's Bay a terrific tussie against the Springboks, and Wanganui against Wellington. In the second spell, when it was obvious that the pace of Wanganui would tell, play became much more strenuous, and Hawke's Bay made stern efforts to reduce an 8-polnt deficiency. Nothing but sheer pace and tenacity on Wanganui's part frustrated these attacks, the home team bustling the Bay backs into errors and profiting from most^of tha lapses. Tries were scored for "Wanganui by Firrhin, Blackley, and W. Thompson. Two were converted by Barton, who also kicked a penalty. For Hawke's' Bay Ffaser, McKenzie, and Joll scored tries, Herbert converting one.
Wanganui now have the most satisfactory representative Rugby record for years, having defeated Wellington, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Poverty Bay, and North Otago. They lost by two poirits to Manawatu early in the season, and later to Canterbury.
