SHANGHAI, September 17.
The Chinese population of Shanghai is so swollen that hundreds of thousands of reguees are faced with a serious food shortage owing to the blockade and also to peasants abandoning their farms. The non-arrival of the liner Nagasaki Mam has created mystification. Officials decline to discuss a suggestion that the Chinese bombed her in mistake for a transport.
tihe passengers include Britons and other foreigners.
