SHOP ASSISTANTS
AUSTRALIAN AWARD
SYDNEY, September 17.
In a tentative award covering shopassistants, the Industrial Commission provides that male rates of wages are to be paid to assistants employed in any shop, department, or section of a shop selling groceries, male clothing, hardware, furniture, Manchester goods, wireless sets, and equipment, motor accessories, and cooked provisions.
An employer may employ all female assistants in the sale of women's garments, baby wear, fancy goods, toys, cakes, and flowers.
In other departments, except small shops, not less than 50 per cent, of the shop assistants shall be males.
