THE MONTAGUE SHOW
Saturday Next.
The Australian premiere of "Let's go Places," the first brilliant show, to be presented by the Montague Revue Company, was one of the brightest and most memorable theatrical occasions ever held in Melbourne, where the Australian and New Zealand tour of Sir Benjamin -Fuller's latest important venture commenced. "Let's go Places" will open its Wellington season next Saturday. Reviewing the entertainment the Melbourne "Age" said: "The first night audience saw a colourful, amusing, and generous vaudeville entertainment. In each of the twenty scenes that comprised the show no effort was spared to dazzle the eye. George Doonan, the principal comedian, is a joyous person, destined for popularity everywhere he appears. Ho works without strain and refuses to take liberties with his audience. He knows the boiling point of a joke— and never lets it boil over. As for the Darmora Troupe of Hungarian dancers, its speed and athleticism in the French Can-Can number are sensational. Barbara Vernon, the American comedienne, who played the name part in the revival of 'No, No, Nanette/ in London, sings and dances vivaciously in a number of the best scenes. The comedy side is strengthened by the inclusion of Jewell and Warriss, who can sing, dance, pull faces, impersonate film actors, and reel off an entertaining string of jests. 'The Two Rogues,' Franz and Bea, and Alma Mackie, present some amusing and clever eccentric dancing. The Dawn Sisters are captivating in a mixture of ballet and burlesque. There are many other, delightful features, including a ballet of 30 girls." Box plans for "Let's go Places", will open next Tuesday morning.
