DAY OF GIVING
ST, BARNABAS';-CHURCH
During the past three years-remark-able progress has' been made in the parish of Koseneath.- Shortly:after the appointment of. .the Rev. £. M. McLevie a day of giving.- was,held,to, liquidate outstanding'debts, and the parishioners responded with tlic splendid sum of £340. Since then the.church has-been completely refurnished with, beautiful heart rimu pews and new carpets. The parish has no hall for -Sunday school and Bible-class purposes,:and a determined effort 1b feeing made to provide one. A day of -giving lor the hall was held in May. 1936,'atTd resulted in £232 being raised, and: the fund'now stands at £451.. Owing .to. the higli cost of building ': materials,. it will be necessary .to rajs-?-..considerably -morn than this amount.-and.-with this -object in view a second.day of givingyfor the hall will be held tomorro.w, when the preacher- at1 all services- will-be : the Bishop -of Nelson, the' Right Rev. -Dr. Hilliard. The churchwardens 'arid -vegtry feel .confident .thattlie.-parishioners will'again rise to' the occasio'n,-',The services will be at-the .usual, hours.. The earnest appeal, ql. tlie.B.ishop. of. Wellingtpn,;, in .his Synod address,.for direct' giving', is'haying a splendid response'in many • parishes,-and it,is : ..the desire'of the .vicar of Roseneath; that this method1 shall eventually be.adopted by the-parish for all purposes. ■ ■ Those who are'farseeing in the parish look'forward to the ..day:,when a permanent brick - church.. will, rep-lace the present small :Wooden -buildmg.
