APOLLO WOMEN'S CLUB
WELLINGTON COMPOSERS
■ The Apollo Women's Club met recently, when Mrs. W. H. P. Walshe
presided.
An interesting and entertaining pro-, gramme was presented, practically all the items being composed or written by Wellington people.
Firstly, there was a most amusing play-reading, entitled "The Best Seller," written by Isobel Andrews, of Seatoun. Those taking part were Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Walshe, Madam Bligh, and Misses Keddell and Russell. Beatrice Douglas then sang charmingly a song "Sleeping Thoughts," composed by Joye Taylor.' An interesting reading from New Zealand poets was given by Miss Keddell, and a very dramatic song, entitled "Judas," was sung by Mr. Hopkins, the words being written by Isobel Andrews, and the music by Joye Taylor. A charming scene was also acted from the musical comedy, "Once Aboard the Lugger," by the same authors. The delightful old world costumes worn by the three players added greatly to the effect Those taking part were Beatrice Douglas, James Brackenridge, and Alan Crawford, who sang a rollicking number "Barnacle Bill" during the scene Two songs were sung by Beatrice Douglaas, "When on a Summer's Morn" (by Jenny Russell) and "Edward" (by Leslie Souness).
