SWORDS CLUBS COMPETE

.On Thursday evening a large number of fencing enthusiasts assembled at Mr. Jenkins's gymnasium to witness fencing bouts between first-year members of the Wellington Swords Club and the New Zealand Swords Academy. The Swords Academy proved victorious by winning 14 fights to 4. with the Wellington Swords Club 61 points and Swords Academy 33 points The teams were as follows: —Wellington Swords Club's women's team, Misses M. Haughey, L. Black, and K. Kempthorne; Academy, Misses Willis, Kiely, and Mrs. Dickensen. Wellington men's team, Miss M. McColl, and Messrs, J. Fallaver and D. Keeling; I Academy, Messrs. Dicksen, Hunter, and I Rose. The referees were Miss Fallaver and Messrs. G. Harcourt and T. Wilson.

Several foil and sabre exhibitions were given by Miss Peggy Fallaver, Messrs. G. Harcourt, D. Messenger, A Fredric, and T. Wilson.

The club members and their friends were entertained at supper by the Swords Academy,
