DRAW WITH MCCREADY

The Irish-American ■■wrestler, Don Noland, made his first appearance in the New Zealand ring at Christchurcli last Saturday. Performing before a capacity audience, he fought to a draw with Earl McCready, of Canada, eaoh man taking one fall. The crowd was in-carnival mood all the evening, expressing its appreciation of an interesting bout with alternate cheering and jeering throughout the eight rounds of the contest. The two men were well matched and 'gave an open display with plenty of showmanship, which the crowd was obviously in the mood to enjoy to the full.

McCready's weight was announced as 16stl21b and Noland's as 16st 71b. Noland proved himself strong and quick to apply his holds, but McCready when he wanted was usually able to get the best of the contest. Noland took his fall in the fifth round with a pile-driver, and it was not until the eighth round that McCready drew even with a fall from a body press, after dumping his opponent tkre* times. .'■'■■.

Most of his holds were neatly' and swiftty applied, but McCready was powerful enough to turn many to his own advantage.
