Alexander Mines, Limited, report for the month of Augiist as follows:—No. 6 crosscut extended 93ft, making total 684 ft from surface. The country has been good, but progress slow owing to amount of water coming from face, a bigstream coming.in making conditions unfavourable for working. Stoping carried on in No. 5 and above intermediate levels. Lode in No. 5 stope still shortens on north end, but width at lode gradually improves. Above intermediate level stopes are approaching the level north of crosscut where the lode was intersected. There is a fair amount of stone to be extracted north of the section being stoped up. During the period 420 tons of ore were crushed for a return of 2720z Bdwt melted gold. The.cyanide department treated for the same period 268 tons of sands for 83oz lldwt of bullion. Total estimated value £2320. In addition 10.2 tons of concentrates were saved valued at £327; (In estimating the above value gold has been taken at 140s per fine ounce;) MARTHA REPORT, The following information lias: been cabled to London from the Martha mine, Waihi:—For the period ended August 28, comprising twenty-two crushing days, 18,665 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 4665 fine ounces of gold and 23,610 fine ounces of silver. This includes 2160 tons mined from the Grand Junction area, which yielded 420 fine ounces of gold and 1745 fine ounces of" silver.' Number : 2 level— North branch of- Martha lode: At 9 feet east, have commenced rising and the first 48 feet assays 18s 6d a ton. The lode is about 2 feet wide. Number 4 level—East section of Edward lode: Driving north. The •first 30 feet assays 43s 6d a ton. The lode is about 2£ feet wide.
